Hi folks,
Not sure if this belongs in 'Early Aircraft' or 'Missile' projects ... Anyway, gleaned from 'Modern Mechanix' (July 1934 pages 52-55) is a design from "world famous" English inventor, Sidney G. Brown, for a fleet of catapult-launched automated interceptors guided by photoelectric cells. See: http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2008/07/23/robot-planes-to-fight-enemy-air-raiders/
Note the authentic-looking 'sound detector' on page 53. Cf. the 1930's designs at: http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/COMMS/ear/ear.htm

What a great find!
Thanks
I have spent 'too many hours' going through this web site, on the WAR section alone

Hi Pioneer,
Yes indeed, browsing the 'Modern Mechanix' pages can devour your time. Just as a companion to Sidney Brown's 'robot interceptors', check out the 'Popular Science' September 1944 'robot bombers' article, starting at:
http://blog.modernmechanix.com/mags/PopularScience/9-1944/automatic_weapons/automatic_weapons_0.jpg
The fifth page of the above shows the Modisette 'Hot Shot' and a couple of patent-images of Sperry and Peppin aerial torpedo designs.

The Peppin Gliding Projectile (United States Patent 1663058, filed July 1st, 1927) is available online as a PDF from Google patents.
Cheers,

Wasn't there a proposal made to the royal navy sometime around 1915 for a television & wire guided ship launched cruise missile?
