Hi All -

Doesn't look like a replica to me - actually makes me think of a saboted tank round:

Anyone have ideas as to what it is?

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Re: Replica Missile?

Definitely a SABOT dart. Ask the seller what missile it's a "replica" of. ;D

Re: Replica Missile?

It's a sabot round. I have an identical one.

Re: Replica Missile?

This is an espresso machine. A sno-cone maker? No, it's a lawn dart.

"Replica" might imply that it's made to the same dimensions as the actual item, but from some material other than the original.

Maybe because the original material would be (slightly) radioactive, or potentially toxic without handling protections, or too expensive, or too heavy to be practical, or just too difficult to produce.

If it were actual DU, it would weigh 1.67 times what it would weigh if made of lead, or about 2.43 times what it would weigh if made of steel, or about 7.1 times what it would weigh if made of aluminum.

If you can determine the volume of the object, and its weight, you can determine what metal it's made of.

An easy way to estimate the volume of a complex-shaped object like this is to obtain a waterproof container big enough to hold the object, partly fill it with water, and mark the original water height and the water height when the object is submerged in the container. Then remove the object, and carefully determine how much water must be added to cause the same water-height differential.

Once the volume is determined, and the object is weighed, it should be straightforward to infer what metal it's made of by comparing its density to standard material property charts...or just asking the internet what metal has that density.

M865 FINNED PENETRATOR SABOT DEMO ROUND

https://man.fas.org/dod-101/sys/land/m865.htm : "The 120mm M865E2 is a Target Practice, Fin Stabilized, Discarding Sabot - Tracer (TPFSDS-T) cartridge, produced through means of recovery of M829 cartridges and converting to a training cartridge. The M865E2 is functionally indistinguishable from the standard M865 in that it is a kinetic energy training cartridge."
