After a political realignment under the current government, Spain cancelled its Spike contract as well as several other major acquisition contracts in 2025.

It is now reported that Spain is considering buying the Spike instead.

The Spike LR2 specifically is sought, and is the flagship model of the Spike family.
Range of 5.5km from ground launch, 10km from helicopter.
A fiber optic datalink, multi-mission warheads, man-in-the-loop or F&F, smokeless motor, top-attack with anti-APS feature, and ability to mount on ground and air platforms, as well as being crew-served.

I see what you did here. Given that the original Spanish cancellation was about politics rather than budget or capability, it's not that weird to see them coming back to the "Europeanized" MELLS version of Spike.

I've seen another logical assessment, according to which Spain has no issue buying Israeli hardware out of the public eye, but needs more European content to meet requirements for EU subsidies from SAFE.

The cost is delaying the whole process by about a year, but geographically Spain has nothing to worry about.

Also possible.
