Remember reading about this the original Astronauts were or at least most combat veterans with i believe a few were involved in downing Recon drones firebees if I recall correctly and othe interesting stuff
 
There also was a chinese project for a Mercury-Redstone-like suborbital crewed spaceflight in the early 60s. It was probably much smaller than Shuguang however, the latter employed 30,000 workers at its peak...
 
What the heck happened to my post ? I said I had doubts, no about Shuguang (which really existed) but rather, the narrative as it is told outside China. Wished we had more chinese points of view and sources to set the record straight - what's wrong, what's right.
