Post WW II fighters, Ki-84 Hei vs TA-152H vs F8F-2

Hi again,

See the attached graph from the P-51D manual ... the P-51D was "redlined" at 505 mph, but at altitude, the real limit was actually lower. A 475 mph limit would be relevant below 8000 ft only.

Oops, forgot the attachment ... here it is.

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)

This is a pretty good article but includes several errors. First the span for F/G/J & H were the same as all other earlier Mustangs - namely 37ft, 0 and 5/16in. Wing Area S= 235.73 (vs 233.19 for all earlier models).

The empty weights are close but Gross weights (w/105 gal fuel only) are off, particularly the G compared to the F. The only difference was the engine and water tank for ADI.

The J was about 8 3/4 longer than P-51A through D/K, and the H was about 13" longer than all other A through D/K.

The extra J length was required because of the 1710-119 engine.
The extra H length was required to add extra fuselage length behind wing, the wing was moved back about 6" in comparison to all earlier Mustang Models.

Much of the weight data is at variance from the Specs, but close. Fuel capacity internal correct with each having 105gal rt wing and 75 left wing (removable) for F/G/J. The H was same but added 55 gal fuse tank.
