This 1962/64 aircraft project is amazing. How to classify it? The pilot position makes it the first "tail-first" tailsitter I have ever seen, maybe.

Black and white negative concept drawing for the RVTO Mark III Fighter and Recon Convertiplane. The plane was intended for use by the United States Navy. It was designed by the Wilford Aircraft Corporation in Merion Station, PA in 1961. The plane was designed to take off and land like a helicopter would (Vertical Take Off and Landing; or VTOL) and fly like an airplane.

How did they plan to compensate the torque? I see no tail rotor equivalent.

As it seems to should have had jet propulsion, so the rotor could have been tip jet powered,
eliminating the need to compensate torque.
But the most interesting moment in every flight probably would have been the transition. Taking off
rearwards (!) means, that the aircraft would go through v = 0, before accelerating forwards, using part
of its potential energy (height) to gain enough speed for wingborn flight. Not quite, what aircraft
or helicopters generally do !
