I've never seen those twin-engine studies before. I always thought the MiG-9 was a stubby-looking thing. The two engines give it a more elegant look, almost like a Russian Meteor.

Hi Borovick
Could you give us more info about the I 260.
i never see something about this study !
In Belyakov -Marmain book, in chapter "I 300"
only some words to speak of this project
Thanks and bye

Yes, Stalin didn't want copies of German jet fighters. Same fate had also the early SU-9.

The I-320 (FN) looks similar to the Lavochkin La-150, but which had a a shoulder-mounted wing.

From the Soviet fighter aircraft designed for the scheme should be added:
Lavochkin project "160" is the first with this name,
several projects Alekseyev's: http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,5360.0 ,
and the future/pre Su-9 - Project "L" by Sukhoi.

Hi Toura
I-260, serial code "K"; design byuro/OKB-155 (May 1945)
Engines 2 x BMW-003
Armament: 1 x N-37 (37mm)
2 x HC-23 (23mm)
Experienced copy should be ready by 31 August 1945, but in June of all the priorities were
given another version of a fighter named I-300 and the code "F".
In OKB felt the best to increase the midship fuselage, moving into it, both the engine, but left wing
aerodynamically "clean".

Have you got 3-view from Sukhoi "L"?

hi Borovik
Thanks for your prompt detailed answer.
But, now I see that Lavochkin has the same way to go
to the single engined la 160 !
Thanks

Many thanks Borovik,

This an excellent contribution..

JUST A LITTLE GAME....
If I have to choice the upper view is "Yakovlev" with
the tail of the Yak 3
But !!??

Is there any particular reason that Stalin did not want aircraft that looked German? Any plane designed with two engines outboard of the fuselage will look like a Me-262!

Fishjay (Lester)

I think it's ironic that Stalin didn't like the Su-9 because it looked like the Me 262, but he didn't mind having a bomber that looked like the B-29.

The fact that they were Jumo004 derivatives probably had some effect as well.

In the appendix an 3-view drawing of the project Sukhoi L.
(Source: ПРОКЛОВ, В.: Су-9, Cu-11 и советский Ме-262. Авиация и Космонавтика 2005, 4, 27 – 41.)
It is the only previously known 3-view drawing of this project. The quality is poor. The drawing shows some contradictions to the photos of the mockup.

for political reasons that needed agreement by Mikoyan the politician , the career of Mikoyan the designer was given a boost and ı would say Pavel Sukhoi was a valuable enough to be given a false reason instead of being shot

Work in progress Su-L:
