The videos are an interesting slice of history, particularly the ones relating to the Iranian Tomcat program. I'd be interested in seeing what the Grumman-built towns look like today in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The necessity of these towns during the mid-70's illustrates the challenges of the Tomcat logistics train, and certainly argue against any formidable Tomcat force in the Islamic Republic today.

Re. the Armalite AR-10 promo movie part 2, where the Armalite rep. covers the gun in sand, shakes it off, then proceeds to fire it, I saw something almost like that at an NDIA small-arms conference a few years back. Picture the following (and remember, there were maybe 100 potential customers watching the show):
1. Representative from "ACME Arms" (or whatever), manufacturer of an M16 clone, wants to demonstrate how reliable their gun is in sandy environments.
2. Rep. puts gun in sand-filled case, shakes case, extracts gun.
3. Rep. shakes sand off gun, inserts magazine and pulls charging handle to the rear.
4. Rep. aims at target and pulls trigger.
5. Gun goes BANG.
6. Rep. pulls trigger again.
7. Gun goes *click*.
8. Rep. looks confused, extracts magazine from gun, then spends a couple of minutes trying to pull back the charging handle.
9. Rep. says "Ahem....It worked when we tried it this morning. Honest!".
10. Host takes pity on rep. and leads us on to the next exhibit on the range.

I don't know if he ever did get that gun working again ;D

Of course, there's no way of telling how many times Armalite redid that scene in the movie before getting it right

I believe it! It's been my experience with both issued and personally owned versions of the AR that they are quite reliable if one spends about an hour and a half per day cleaning them.
