Advanced Long Range Air-to-Air Missile Systems

The advanced long range air-to-air missile system (ALRAAM) is currently in exploratory development. Although using advanced state of the art technology, DTC [design to cost] considerations have been incorporated. A preliminary $150,000 unit flyaway cost has been set. These DTC goals have been agreed to by both the Navy and McDonnell Douglas, the prime contractors.

Advanced long-range air-to—air missile (ALRAAM) design was selected by Naval Air Systems Command from McDonnell Douglas study of future missile concepts for different missions. ALRAAM could become replacement for rocket-powered Phoenix missile.
