Any landing you can walk away from, is a good one.

I know some of you will know this, but I just saw this and wondered if anyone remembers.

Was reading my ole Dad's copy of Jane's All the World Aircraft, and found the following:

Lockheed GV-1

Do you know what that is? (was?)

GV-1 was the original designation of the Marines' KC-130F tanker. In the pre-1963 US Navy designation system, G was for In-flight Refuelling, V was for Lockheed Aircraft Co.

Right

I thought that was cool cause you don't see that much

Topic's name was changed to include all non-standard and strange designations from Lockheed.
Please note that the L- designations have nothing to do with the early L- series which became the CL- series.

About the V-146: all 286 Venturas that served with the RCAF were built by Lockheed-Vega. Are you saying there was another Ventura version for the RCAF, or that they carried a different company designation?

Honestly, I couldn't say. It's a designation I found on a couple of occasions. Perhaps an engineering designation that was distinct from the model designations?

NO.

There were several projects in the GL- series (Georgia-Lockheed) which culminated in the Hummingbird: GL-204, GL-224-2, GL-228, GL-230.
There were also projected derivatives: GL-296, GL-364, GL-380, LG4-101 and -102, LGX-130.

The commercial company designation of the VZ-10 (which became the XV-4A) was L-330.
That of the XV-4B (Hummingbird II) was L-331.

Here is a typical example of a typo ("VZ-120" instead of VZ-10) and a mistake ("company designation" instead of Army designation) that keeps being repeated if no-one corrects it.

AQ-12 was an early designation for the D-21.

L-2000 was chosen by Lockheed to denote the Mach 3 speed of its SST design.
