An interview from 1981 with Edgar M.Cortright, Lockheed California president was
illustrated in FlugRevue 7/1981 with a number of artist impressions of aircraft for
the 21st century, among them a flying boat of about 450 to 700 tons, carrying
800 to 1500 passengers. Interestingly, for take-off powered sleds were considered,
allowing use of land airports at least for take-off.
(Have searched here for quite a while, with a lot of different key words, but without
results, so I hope it isn't a double post)

Thank you for posting this interesting concept, Jemiba. I have often wondered why there has been little interest in large flying boats and ekranoplans in the United States and Europe, while there has been considerable interest in the Soviet Union and now Russia.

Did this get as far as the windtunnel, I wonder?

I like em !

I think many of us here in the US like flying boats. The old Boeing and Sikorski clippers.
The Martin boats. And the ekranoplans. Very cool stuff indeed!

Also submersible aircraft!
