The Beat movement arose in Classic Rome, young men grew their hair "Crines Maiores" and tormented their neighbors by playing the drum during the night.

The elders of this time complained that it was a cultural movement encouraged by the Parthians to keep young Romans away from military life.

Finding culprits for the misfortunes that befall us is a traditional way of coping, but not always the most productive way.
Always attractive, though.
<edit> An honest search for culprits sometimes finds that you yourself are to blame. Live and learn :)

I have come to believe that true humor is *always* mocking/subversive to any particular history, culture, or creed, but that's perhaps the privilege of having grown up in a basically USA liberated/enabled/fostered (oh, those good old days!) pluralistic society (which I am truly profoundly thankful of!).

So true. I've thankfully never been in that situation, and I certainly hope I never will, but if I ever encountered a wannabe suicider say on the precipice of a bridge, depending on the particular jurisdiction I might theoretically be tempted to first ask them for their political affiliation...

Yeah. And I think it's getting bad all over the planet, even in traditionally free, democratic countries. A lot of censorship around, mostly self-applied for many wrong reasons.
Humor helps people cope with all the nonsense... and that's the only reason why most world leaders tolerate caricature and satire, because forbidding them means putting a lid over a pressure cooker, which rarely ends well.
And even without looking at the politicians, this world provides plenty of reasons to laugh—albeit sarcastically...

Hilarious display fails... but for once in France! (because, yes, the idiots are all over the planet):

1°) Your agency is exceptionally closed on Tuenesday, August 20 (with "merdi" sounding a lot like the French for sh*t)
2°) Garlic salami without garlic
3°) Cushion made of rabbit feathers
4°) Energizing fruit drinks (a possible definition, mind you!)
5°) Yellow Gate Street — formerly known as Yellow Gate Street
6°) Shower Gel, shaving and hair removal
7°) Annal vacation (the correct word should be "annuel" — plus "annale" sounds a lot like anal)
8°) School failure championship ("échecs" means chess, but it also means failures, especially with "scolaire" next to it)

Surely, it just didn't strike me as overtly political. As in commenting/taking a side in a political sense (not approving or condemning of any action of any side). More so pointing out something rather amusing.

I could also delete it if it makes people uncomfortable or is considered political
