Sweeping generalizations rarely are correct - based on recorded voting patterns, typically about a third of people across history and geography are indeed consistently acting utterly stupid/idiotic, and that's why democracy is still a roll of the dice in every single election, and also why I would strongly advocate to constrain democracy to a subset of the population that has an IQ of 100 and above. Otherwise, we risk a future as portrayed in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiocracy.

Not the only one by far... Some of us quite like the deadly beast.

The two squadrons I deployed with (Japan & P.I. 1984 & CV-61 Ranger 1985-87) - the first pic was taken while I was assigned there, the second just after my time aboard:

Chuck Teschke, a Canadian engineer, has mashed up a Volkswagen Combi van and an Airbus H125 to create a crazy hybrid. Although for static display only (it stands in his garden) the result is fascinating!

Ah yes, they continued that programme with the installation of water and then antigravity systems.

One photo shows a secret prototype in its silo preparing for its first orbital mission.

And just to make sure that no-one takes the movie scenes at face value (you never know with online posts these days...), the DS in Fantomas DIDN'T actually fly for real, it was only a movie prop! ;-) Here is a scale model of it.

I did hear somewhere that there was a very short lived project to make an ACTUAL flying vehicle based on the DS in the 50s. I have not found much references to confirm it, and reasonable to speculate it would not have been remotely similar to the one in the movie.
