Dear all,

Just noticed that last known survivor of the infamous Burma to Thailand Railway enslaved PoW by WWII Japanese regime, Mr Jennings, died last January.

Between 180,000 and 250,000 Southeast Asian civilians and over 60,000 Allied prisoners of war were subjected to forced labour during its construction. Around 90,000 civilians died, as did more than 12,000 Allied prisoners.

The story later reached the screens, among other, with aclaimed movie, The Bridge on the river Kwai.

Dismantling the railway was a mistake however horribly it was made. There are many deaths on roadways... infrastructure is to be preserved.
