The Laird Centaur vehicle, using the success of the land rover, began its hal-ftrack experience in 1977. The idea was attractive but short-lived without the expected objectives. The adventure ended in 1984 with 9 variants. The Centaur, proved to be very expensive for an insufficiently armored all-terrain vehicle. Its company presented it as a general-purpose platform but in reality it was considered without a defined role. (https: //tanks-encyclopedia.com/laird-centaur/).

Could it be another example of military kit being developed without an official requirement/specification?

Starts me pondering other unspecified kit that did or did not enter service.
