Japanese Surface to Air Missiles

There are so little information about japanese SAM system dispite being very interesting.

Type 03 chu sam was one of first sam system to use AESA radars





The Type 03 chu-Sam kai seems to have a new radar using GAN technology, new longer range missiles

the kai version missiles seems not have canard like the previous version, only tail fins



Then we the new Type 23 A-SAM
which is ship launched version with added booster for even longer range, engineered specifically for "cooperative engagement" or network shooting with called the Fire Control (FC) network which aims to share radar information among destroyers which is equivalent to US CEC|





What interest me is that many sources including japan's Ministry of Defence that improved chu-sam kai version has the ability to counter ballistic and hypersonic threats.

It Seems they also typing to develop their own version of SM-3 or ARROW call the N-SAM or simply New Ship-to-Air Missile,
The main changes are the improved ability of the seeker to accurately detect and track HGVs flying at high altitude, at high speed, and on irregular trajectories in order to shoot them down, and the addition of side thrusters to improve the maneuverability of the missiles at high altitude.
