Couldn't see one so why not

On 20th Jan, a new version of the Brahmos missile with enhanced capability, successfully test-fired off Odisha coast. An earlier attempt on 19th July 2021 failed due to a faulty booster that failed to ignite. The current NOTAM was for 750km

Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM)

DRDO tested this for the first time in Jan 2021, with a second test last month. This is based of the Astra Mk-1. It has a 60km range. Indian warships will finally stop being criminally under-armed once this gets inducted. The current Barak-8 + Brahmos setup is simply too expensive for the existing naval budget

>VL-SRSAM's ship launch configuration shows a 16 cell VLU set up. Most current Indian Navy Frigates & Destroyers should be able to house one such VLU set up on their forward decks. The VL-SRSAM will fill the gap in AD capability between AK-630s & Barak-8 LRSAMs on Indian ships.

Astra Mk-2 is currently under development and is rumoured to be tested by the end of the year. It features some substantial upgrades over the Mk-1 version, featuring a dual-pulse rocket motor, Indian AESA seeker, 2-way Data Link and a reported range of 160+ km. Quite similar to the AMRAAM 120D

Awesome. Would be impressive to see on the old su-30mki fighters. Wonder what aircraft will be able to carry the missiles. It looks like they followed a similar style missile form as the derby er. Wonder if they can only be used on aircraft with israeli radars. Though they are saying it will be indian made aesa seeker? Very cool.

The Sukhois and Tejas AFAIK. The FCR of this missile is an ELTA made JV one. It will be upgraded to an indigenous one for the second batch Tejas mk2 since they will be using the Uttam aesa radar instead of the elta one.

Astra Mk 3 is also under development. This one will be using a solid fuelled air-breathing ramjet engine. Some sources say this is being built with Russian assistance but i cant find any information anywhere confirming this. A tech demonstrator Solid fuel ducted ramjet missile (SFDR) has undergone multiple successful tests which means that the Mk3 version should be tested latest by next year. Astra Mk3 will have a reported range of 350+km

Scary

Any news as to what type of missile it was?
This whole account sounds weird. Even ignoring how incompetent you have to be to "accidently" fire a missile, Pakistan's reaction to this is even more weird. They have brought India to the UN for far less before and post balakot shut their entire airspace down for a few days. Here a missile gets gets fired and was heading directly in the path between 2 PAF airbases and they just watched it crash down and make a powerpoint presentation more than a day after it happened? They had no way knowing it was unarmed. And how does a missile conveniently make a 90 degree turn midair (didnt know the brahmos could do that) directly into Pakistan.

So what could have caused it to behave that way? Sounds like a dodgy guidance system to me.

or a training mission but with the console accidentally switched to "war" mode.

I would have thought that there would have been a training variant of the Brahmos to stop incidents like this from occurring, or a live variant was accidentally loaded instead. I suppose that there will be a full investigation into what went wrong.

DRDO's Naval Anti-Ship Missile Short Range (NASM-SR)

This was first announced at the DefExpo 2020. According to DRDO, the NASM-SR will be a 380 kg projectile with a maximum range of 55 km and used initially with Indian Navy Sea King helicopters, replacing the earlier Sea Eagle missiles. This has been rumoured to be tested by June this year.

No idea how reliable this is considering the CEO himself was saying trials are 4 years away at the start of the year according to the same. Even earlier articles from 2018-19 were saying the first prototype would only be ready in 2024. handle. -> View: https://twitter.com/TheLegateIN/status/1479670033844699145

But the news was taken from this TOI news article

But this will be great news if true. Brahmos New Generation (NG) fixes almost all the flaws of the original missile. It will be ~50% lighter (1.5tn vs 3tn), while having a similar range and speed. 300-450km, Mach 3 - 4.5. It will also see an indigenous seeker and an AESA radar replacing the mechanically scanned radar. This missile can be attached to most IAF jets. For eg, The Su-30 MKI will be able to carry 4 such missiles compared to just 1 currently.

Bharat Dynamics Amogha III ATGM

This is BDL's 3rd generation ATGM of the Amogha series. It has a reported range of 200–2,500 m and weighs 18 kg (possibly ~16kg for the production model). It will be equipped with a Active Imaging infra-red (IIR) seeker

This was unveilled in AeroIndia 2020 https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-detail/bdl-unveils-new-amogha-iii-atgm

There was a test video of its prototype floating around last year but cant find it anymore

Looks like the Astra Mk-2 BVR missile was indeed test fired on the Sukhoi Su-30 MKIs sometime this year. MK-2 comes with nearly identical profile to Mk-1, but features a dual pulse solid motor rocket, an indigenous seeker produced by BEL and a range ~160km. This is also the first look at the ejector launcher, which will unify the launcher for many upcoming missiles. The NEZ is unknown but expected to be decent amount higher than the first missile

The ADE developed ITCM has failed again. ADE continues to be the worst performing lab of the DRDO. Nothing these jokers have touched in the last 30 years have worked out. It was running on GTRE's 425 kgf small turbofan (STFE) engine. The nirbhay missile which uses the Russian NPO Saturn 36MT engine has allegedly been inducted in decent numbers. It is unclear what was the cause of the failure. It was thought to be an engine issue but some are saying the issue is with the booster itself. This will likely delay a large number of future missile projects since projects such as the LRLACM since they all depend on the success of the STFE engine and booster.

DRDO successfully conducted the maiden flight test of phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile with a large kill altitude bracket off the Odisha coast. All components of the BMD weapon system that were spread out across a variety of locations participated in the flight test.

AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles and aircraft

This has been in the works for a very long time. The first appearance of these appeared in powerpoint lectures around 2010

Agni-V night trials.
> India on Thursday successfully carried out the night trials of Agni-V nuclear-capable ballistic missile from Odisha.
> The missile can hit targets beyond 5,000 kilometres, defence sources said.
> The test was carried out to validate new technologies and equipment on the missile which is now lighter than before.
> The trial has proved the capability to enhance the range of the Agni-5 missile, if required.

Still hasnt been confirmed to be an A5 launch even though the media has been shouting from the rooftops from "sources". But if it indeed is, then the lighter missile is referring to the 1st stage which was earlier made from maraging steel is now replaced with a composite rocket motor. The goal is to cut the production cost of the A5 missile by a significant (~50%) margin.

You could see sightings from all over the northeast and even Myanmar and bangladesh.

First look at India's first scramjet missile design?

Implying too much from a brouchure? It has been shown for the first time in a public setting.

DRDL has shown it along with other missiles it has developed so far. Maybe more details will be unveiled at the seminar itself. There are currently 4 hypersonic missile systems under development, including the Brahmos-2. I wonder which will be the first to be tested. So far only the tests of scramjet engines have been made public

I think that the Brahmos-2 will be the first hypersonic missile to be flight tested as the scramjet powered missile will take longer to go through tests due to the nature of such missiles.
