Royal Navy Hunter T7 WF310 FRADU late 1980's

Freightdog P1101 conversion fitted to Revell Hunter FGA9 uing the Airfile RN Hunter Decal Set

I like that Geoff, would you know why they chose the side-by-side arrangement instead.

What a beauty. The Hunter surely looks even sleeker and sexier in a two-seat, tandem variant. Shame they picked the ugly side-by-side setup but well, see above, and c'est la vie.

In fact I realize I often liked the Hunter, but that blunt nose and single seat looked a little unbalanced. This tandem seater with the long nose is just perfect looking.

I'd like to see that model "in flight" and without the tanks.

Apparently the side by side version was faster than equivalent single seaters, something to do with the airflow around the wider forward fuselage reducing drag. I wish I could remember where I read that.

It would make the nose-to-tail area distribution closer to the optimum Sears-Haack shape for minimum wave drag. Several contemporary aircraft, eg F-102, had lumps and bumps added for that purpose, process known as area-ruling.
