This was (in August 1951), a 'Supersonic development of the Hunter with 50 degree swept wing, a reheated Gyron and four 30mm Aden cannon'

Size was span 35.33ft, length 51.75ft, wing area 358 sq ft.

Does anyone know what kind of performance it would have had?

dear PMN1.
I have just a little article I don't remenber from where :
Hawker p 1090 1091
Hawker also considered other supersonic hunter designs. including the p 1090, with a delta wing and an
afterburning Sapphire 4 engine, and, the considerably modified p 1091 which featured a 50° thin wing like
that of the P 1083 an afterburning De Havilland Gyron turbojet, a stretched fuselage to accomodate this
engine, and enlarged intakes to provide adequate engine airflow.
However, aircraft design was advancing rapidly at the time and the powers that be decided, not unreasonably,
that true mach 2 fighters were only a few years away and that there was no point in fiddling around
with improved Hunters.
Althougt some work was done on a p 1083 prototype, the P 1090 and 1091 never got beyond the paper stage
Hawkers turned to more limited improvements.
That all

Dear PMN1.

Your site is better than mine : more général explanation.
The end is exactly the same but with picture of the 2 models.
Bye

putnam's Hawker has delta hunter as P.1091.

cheers,
Robin.

I have 'Interceptor' and 'BSP' and both show the P1090 as the swept wing version - very neat looking aircraft, estimated Mach 1.6 here.

The British Secret Projects volume about jet fighters definitely shows the P.1090 as the swept-wing fighter, but it clearly identifies the F.3/48 delta wing fighter as the P.1091. The image of the delta wing fighter in this thread is readily identified as the P.1091 at Hawker Hunter follow-on projects thread, and the image of swept-wing fighter is labelled P.1090. Confusion cleared.
