Hello all,
Not sure if this is the best place for this post but here goes. I recently came across this video and it caught my eye:

It very briefly talks about the microclimate of the Grünloch (aka Gstettneralm) sinkhole in the Eastern Alps, and how the Germans, pre-Barbarossa, used this natural phenomenon to experiment with tank engines for the campaign in Russia, as the cold temperatures there could used as a stand-in for Russian winter. I have scanned through about a dozen meteorological papers so far, from Researchgate, JSTOR, and American Meteorological Society trying to find more information on this and so far nothing but the same half paragraph or so that merely mentions the experiments, but nothing else. Does anybody know a good place to look for this sort of thing? Has anybody heard of this?
