Built as a contender for the AHS Sikorsky Prize, the Team Gamera from the University of Maryland
already holds the longest flight time for human powered helicopters and is trying to achieve the
conditions for the Sikorsky Prize: To hover for 60 seconds and reach a height of 10 feet (3 m) with
human power only.

Another team beat them to it.

Human-powered Helo Prize Won

On June 13, 2013, at the Soccer Center in Vaughan, Ontario, Todd Reichert of the Aero Velo team flew the Atlas human-powered helicopter for 65 seconds, reaching an altitude of 3.3 meters and staying within a 10-meter box to win AHS International's $250,000 Igor S. Sikorsky prize.

Graham will have a fuller post about this later and a story in this week's Aviation Week & Space Technology. This is just a taste.
