I am just so happy and thankful that I left the catholic cult church that I was born into in the last millenium (and the associated tax, see https://www.welcome-hub-germany.com/blog/church-tax-germany) when I got my first job in Germany... In my decades of (based on both sides of the Atlantic) bicontinental experience view, this is one of the *extremely* few areas where the USA is actually *more* progressive than Germany.
