both in 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm NATO ammo

Apparently related to an FN offering for the Next-Generation Squad Automatic Rifle (NGSAR). The Army issued contracts for a bunch of weapons, but then dropped the whole program and started over with the Next-Generation Squad Weapon, which FN either was not selected for or did not bid.

It's in the same basic class as the Knights Assault Machine Gun (7.62) or Light Assault Machine Gun (5.56), the Ultimax LMG, etc. Note that the 5.56 Evolys is more than a half-kilo lighter than the 7.62 version, which could be easily rechambered for 6.5 Creedmoor or maybe even some version of 6.8x51.
