A fire at a major datacentre site in Europe took 3.6 million websites offline, with one datacentre totally destroyed, one damaged, and two others shut down. Of course, 4 datacentres all next to each other is....

Paralay's Russian language forum seems to be one of the affected sites.

The importance of offsite backups cannot be overstated. This forum is hosted in New York and backed up daily to my home server in New Zealand. I know the backups are good because when I migrate the forum, I use the backups as the source. If the original server was lost it would only take a few hours to recreate from the backup.

Yes, paralay.iboards.ru is hosted on SBG3 data center which was not damaged by fire, but was disconnected from electrical grid. IHS promises to fix everything within a few days

And verify your backups work!

We did a technical exercise to see if we could bring a post-release backup of a full project (over a year old IIRC, possibly two or three) back to life and it was more complex than expected - IIRC partly because the development environment had evolved since it was taken.
