I only found out earlier today that the famous Italian actress Claudia Cardinale has just died at the ripe old age of 87, now I don't think I've seen any of her films except for bits of the Pink Panther (Co-starring with Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau) way back in the late 80s.

Claudia Cardinale, the Tunisian-born Italian star of The Leopard, 8 1/2 and Pink Panther, has died at the age of 87.

She had a six-decade long career, rising to fame during the golden age of Italian cinema, and was directed by greats such as Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti.

The actress died at Nemours in France in the company of her children, according to her agent Laurent Savry.

"She leaves us the legacy of a free and inspired woman both as a woman and as an artiste," Savry told AFP news agency.

ROME, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Claudia Cardinale, a glamorous symbol of post-war Italian cinema who enjoyed a long and varied acting career on film and in the theatre, has died at age 87, according to AFP and other French media.

Raised in Tunisia to a family of Sicilian origin, Cardinale's introduction to the movie world came in 1957 after she won a beauty contest in Tunis and was rewarded with a trip to the Venice film festival.

Her voice had to be dubbed for her first Italian screen roles because she had grown up in a family where Sicilian dialect was spoken and had been educated at a French-speaking school.

Although I didn't really see any of her films of hers in a meaningful sense I was aware of her and that she was a talented actress with a long list of acting credits to her name ,she will be missed by those familiar with her work and 87 years old is a very good run.
