For modellers out there, the 'purple applied to WG774 was BS.381c-796 'violet' (matched to RAL.4008 'safety purple', FS.595c.17142 'OHSA. purple', Dulux 90RB 15/300 'damson 4') with BS.381C-353 'Deep Cream' lettering and trim

The cockpit was initially in overall black finish later repainted Dark Admiralty Grey

an interim variation scheme, Fairey FD.2, WG777 with 'Aircraft Blue' & natural metal finish (& EE. P.1, WG763) HM. Queen Elizabeth visit to RAF. Leuchars, 4 June 1957
