Why would they?

Incidentally "J Roy Ewans" from Fairchild is the same Roy Ewans who was chief designer on the Vulcan Mk 2 for Avro.

My dear Paul,

I thought the mention of Sikorsky in last of the article could used
to explain Sikorsky help, now after I discover that's not right,it's
pleasure to know Fairchild-Republic modern helicopter Projects.

It seems as if the design for the 'Navy' was intended to carry troops - going by the access door, which would make it in a configuration reminiscing of the Mil Mi-24/Sikorsky S-67 Blackhawk?

Why would the U.S. Navy been sponsoring/wanting such a high performance assault helicopter? Or would it have been earmarked for the Marines?

Regards
Pioneer

For USN Brown Water/Riverine ops originally I would suspect, though by 1974 such were in sharp decline.

Designed to the same USN requirement you mean? Not enough data at the present time to say one way or the other.
