Anyone know what caused the crash? Or will that be investigated later. It is bad news that there will be two less F-22s in the force.

The first crash was back in 2011 and the cause was put down to pilot asphyxiation. The problem was down to the oxygen valve on the pilot's G-suite, which has now been fixed.

FWIW, F-22 losses per 100,000 flight hours are substantially lower than the F-15, for example. Dramatically lower than the F-16 over the type's lifetime.

I keep a running total since cancellation. Based on the proposal to ramp up to 40 airframes a year we’d be sitting with over 600 by my estimate.
