Is everyone sure that was not a chat gp wotsit press release? The eu government would not be the first to know after all.......

A large majority of European parliamentarians are lawyers, journalists, poets, psychologists... and even worse. They have never faced a tsunami.

Can we actually learn what is in this legislation? I feel like this is the EU taking its alreadly lagging and US-silicon dependent AI industry, and taking it behind the barn. They don't even give a fighting chance to domestic industry. Is this based on OpenAI-style "we fed the How To Make Anthrax at Home" textbook into ChatGPT's training data, and if you don't stop us, we just might tell you?" safety arguments?

"Unacceptable risk: AI systems considered a clear threat to the fundamental rights of people will be banned. This includes AI systems or applications that manipulate human behaviour to circumvent users' free will, such as toys using voice assistance encouraging dangerous behaviour of minors or systems that allow ‘social scoring' by governments or companies, and certain applications of predictive policing."

Laws against "social scoring" are a good idea. "Certain applications of predictive policing" is vague, especially given that that category ranges from the incredibly god to the horribly bad.
