Embraer's original concept in 2007 was to develop a “quick and simple” derivative of the Embraer 190 large regional jet with a high wing as a military transport. Initially designated the C-390, it was expected to cost $600 million to develop, with $400 million to be provided by the government and $200 million by Embraer and risk-sharing partners. This is the design I was documenting in this topic.
The KC-390 unveiled in 2009 is an all-new design according to Embraer. Embraer has launched the KC-390 military tanker/transport with a seven-year, $1.3 billion development contract from the Brazilian air force (FAB). The all-new aircraft is scheduled to fly in 2012 and enter service in 2015.
If Embraer comes up with another design, or if the prototype or built configuration does not match the T-tail design concepts we have seen, they should be added to this topic.
