Posted in the wrong thread... Had to split these posts from the Curtiss XBTC-2 topic.

I can understand you appreciate the self-promotion this forum offers you, John, and am glad if it helps you get some of your stuff sold... However, all the recent posting of your eBay items directly in the forum's topic is against the standard procedure here (I'm surprised no-one let you know this before).

We have a special section for "senior members" (which means quite a lot of us, actually) called "Found on eBay" and this is where that kind of stuff ought to be posted. Not that the documents are not interesting, but it's just the "I'm selling this" bit which is a little offensive when found repeatedly in regular topics.

Thanks a lot for your consideration!

GOOD INFO .... THANK YOU .... I DON'T CARE ABOUT ADVERTISING THEM AS MUCH .. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD POST THESE PIC'S BEFORE THEY WHERE GONE FOREVER ........SO JUST DON'T PUT ANYTHING ABOUT LISTING ON EBAY ?????

Just one users opinion, but this seems to be a unique case, and as long as the information stays beyond the sales date for posterity's sake, I think it's a quality addition. I'd love it if every page was scanned and uploaded to be honest. If the price for that is a bit of advertising, that seems like a reasonable win-win. Again, just one users opinion, and certainly the administrators are free to do as they please with their site. It just seems that this is a bit of a unique situation.

Here is all the pic's....30 of them ......

I understand, and to some extent I agree — to SOME extent only, since many of the documents are posted in topics which are often not the most appropriate, and MOSTLY because there are rules on this forum (as on any other). One of the rules is to not promote your commercial works or sell stuff in the regular sections. There's a "Bookshelf and Marketplace" section for publications where a bit of self-promotion is possible (though I think it's always bet to let others do it when possible) and a "Found on eBay" section which allows for that kind of stuff.

Besides, the images posted are low quality digital photos, not scans, and only random excerpts. If you take the time to dig a bit, you'll find that over the past few months I actually DID post quite a few of jmnjohn's pics in various topics (even promoted his sales in the eBay section) but only after selecting, enhancing and documenting them. Unless this can be done by people who have the knowledge, both of the contents and of how the forum works and where to post them, it could all be just a lot of noise added to the forum for very little gain.

The purpose of the "Found on Ebay" section was to publicise interesting (mostly project related) material I or others found to other members without the resulting posts being google search indexed. If I post a topic with a link to an auction saying "Oh my, ultra-rare model of Northrop XST is for sale for $10 as "Stealth Airplane (Unknown), its worth $300+" its reasonably common for the seller or a reseller to come across that post and

1) redo the description in light of our description (making it easier to find for everyone else, including rival potential bidders)
2) Jack up the price of the item
3) Outbid everyone at auction

We have a number of collectors as members, some of whom are quite generous in sharing pics of their awesome collections. Better if they buy the model or report than someone who will squirrel it away for 30 years unseen.
