Dynamic wind tunnel simulation of a highly augmented flexible model aircraft with canard control surfaces. The test rig and model aircraft demonstrated open- and closed-loop control laws for variable stability functions, rigid body gust alleviation, and elastic mode suppression systems (Project BASE).

HyPlane is a bit like how I would envision a Buran 2…it just needs to bulk up a bit.

HyPlane as is is just suborbital so the TPS needs are more modest.

DLR has tested a new morphing wing on its PROTEUS unmanned aircraft, allowing the wing to change shape continuously during flight. The system uses a hyperelastic trailing edge and an AI‑based flight controller to improve efficiency, control, and robustness against failures. Initial flight tests were successful, and larger‑scale trials are planned for 2026.
