Especially the type portrayed, which was only useful to give a headache to the poor submariner trying to compute the range through his periscope's binoculars.
 
On the other hand, it's popular with car manufacturers now. A dazzle wrap preserves the aerodynamics but conceals the surface contours, which can have a major effect on the overall look. It was supposed to be effective against optical rangefinders rather than to conceal. The operator had to determine range through precise focussing, already difficult enough through mist and rain. If your target is a giant optical illusion, it becomes even trickier.

Unfortunately, contemporary photographs are monochromatic and colour was incorporated. Apparently for the North Atlantic at least, mauve could make it difficult to judge distances.

Some camouflaged road vehicles just look silly ... like the likeness of a red Ferraris painted on the side of a delivery van. At first glace, you expect it to clear the intersection quickly ...
Vancouver has a few (red neck driven) pick up trucks painted in hunting camouflage.
There is even a van painted in semi-Swedish camouflage, but it is black, grey and white.

The ultimate silliness was a prospective bus passenger - wearing camouflage pants - standing in front of a hedge - on a dark and stormy night - and wondering why the bus did not stop! Hah! Hah!
