Don't mind he moves my post, there wasn't even a dedicated thread on the subject when I posted it. Just stop with that master sergeant attitude.

Because I've fixed it. Are you going to post your warning pic after every of thousands YT link with identifier posted on forum? Once more, one who cares of this will shorten link himself, others ...just don't care. You posted about it in Forum feedback, no need to post it in every thread.
 
I'd sooner we devise a way to snip them out automatically with none of this noise and heat that gets neither of us what we want.

Your weird personal quest to remove source identifiers on Youtube videos needs to stop.

For those that don't understand, if you are logged into your Youtube account and hit the "share" button to share a link, the part of the URL after the ? contains an identifier that is linked to your Youtube account (assuming you are logged in) so Youtube know who shared it. When you post that link in a forum post, when Google bots crawl the forum and can see that identifier in the URL they can surmise that Paul Martell-Mead @overscanpaul on Youtube is probably Overscan (PaulMM) on Secret Projects Forum. This kind of thing happens a lot - Cookies on your computer can also be used to link identities in a similar way for advertisers.

If you don't want this to happen, don't use the share button. There's literally no need for it - you can copy the URL from the browser anyway.

The potential privacy breach here is solely on the person posting the video, not innocent bystanders viewing the content. If it doesn't bother me that Google now knows that these two accounts belong to me, it shouldn't bother @dannydale and he should not be harassing mods into deleting the source identifiers on other people's uploads. I'd say most people don't care, and if they do care the onus is on them to not post URLs with source identifiers that identify them.

No longer what? Derailing threads? Why should we read about spaceship TPS in Junkers corrugated metal sheet design origins? Why should we read about your ideas of Starship mods in Energia/Buran thread? You just don't react on dozens of requests to think before posting something vaguely related to topic subject that seems strange for likely a high IQ tech person. You are free to create new threads, why convert existing ones in ratatouille?
 
I agree that moderators should always aim to be polite - it is one of the forum rules after all. It is sometimes hard to keep one's call in every situation and yes, some moderators are better than others in staying cool. I would reinforce to all moderators that notifications to users should be factual and neutral/polite - reserve venting of frustration for the moderators forum.

The only reason I mentioned that is a belief that technology of the past may yet be relevant to problems of today.

If thermal tiles tesselate in one way, but have grooves (hollow?) stem to stern--that might solve Starship woes. Thus technology of yesterday is relevant to spaceflight--like the shower fixtures that inspired a Hubble fix.

Now if I talked about how Tri-Motors hauled bean-dip...that would indeed be ratatouille.

We exist in divisive times--so everyone is on edge.

In about 1978, I was sitting at my desk at the former Stencel Aero Engineering Company in Asheville NC, minding my own business, reading a paperback because we had literally no work to do. Suddenly, with no warning at all, in strides Jesse Helms, straight at me. A genuine United States Senator - what was he doing in our little office??? I ditched the book, stood up, and he held out his hand to shake mine vigorously. "I'm going to do everything I can to save your job!" he said, and then whirled out as swiftly as he'd blown in. Um, what??? That was the first I'd heard that our company's future was in jeopardy. It wasn't long before I found out the truth, and I managed to escape before the big axe fell.

So - business as usual then? Out of curiosity, do you actually have anything against the concept of being polite to group members? It takes no longer to type a polite or at least neutral message telling what you're doing with a post than it does to compose a sarcastic one.

Explain the privacy and security problems this causes you.

If you click on the link... or open the page where the video is embedded - which is linked to Ogami Mushashi's Youtube account... then... what happens?

How is it different from when you click the link or open the page where the video is embedded and Ogami mushashi's identifier is removed?
