Rather than aircraft carriers I think it is US nuclear submarines that pose the main threat to Chinese seapower, so I was interested in this article:

The Western powers have been in the ASW business for a long time thanks to Germany,.Japan and the USSR. China can copy a lot of the equipment but it will be harder to catch up on over a century of hunting subs.

This is why China is so against Australia's acquisition of SSNs, they know they will struggle to counter high end subs. If Australia participates in the build of either US or UK types, it can increase the build drum beat of these advanced vessels providing the west as a whole with even greater capacity to ramp up production going forward.

Not to minimise challenges the PRC will have in building up their airborne ASubW capacity but given the likely very long lead time required for Australia to field their nuclear subs highly likely these subs will be going up against an entirely different order of magnitude of capacity. All while the Collins class subs are rapidly aging.

Does anyone know what role the Shaanxi KQ-200 MPA plays in particular? On that note it may be interesting to discuss the existing (and if possible projected) MPA and ASW helicopter efforts that are ongoing in China.

Given their maritime focus, these have to be extremely valuable assets. And while discussions often revolve around carriers, destroyers and missiles, such planes and helicopters play vital roles in any naval stand off.

From what I know, there's are news about possible ASW/maritime patrol varient of the massive flying wing drone recently revealed in the future.

Though don't know how well it can fly at low altitude near ocean surface.

Given its equipment : sonobuoys, mad sensor, large dedicated radar, weapon bays for torpedoes and depth charges; I would say it's safe to say its role is one of submarine hunting with secondary role of surface search.
Given the threats and its speed I would guess its intended patrol area is closer to Chinese coast then to first island chain. Also, given its size and power plant it can probably loiter for a long time.

It's been in service for 10 years now so a successor design y9fq has also been entering service since 2023.
