Boeing F-47 NGAD - Speculation and Theories

Also, as a side impression, frontal shape of the new aircraft isn't just small, if you "remove" cockpit in your imagination, it's very cleanly ... dronish.
Granted, same is true for many full glass cockpit aircraft, but recently it wasn't really a trend.
 
All im hoping is that this thing is dual engine and at least F-22 sized. The rendering is throwing me off and a comment from a general saying the F-47 is cheaper than the F-22 worries me

Maybe the problem is making the canopy transparent to the right wavelengths.

You’d need to avoid distortion in a different part of the spectrum than the parts the pilots see with their eyes/through visors and HMDs, while also continuing to worry about EM coatings, bird strikes, scratches, etc. If you made a “bifocal” canopy, then maybe you’d have to worry about temperature expansion/contraction & strength in whole new ways.

Even a small window would also potentially work against your own thermal signature, if the interior cockpit temp was higher than the friction-heated temp of its surroundings. I would think that wouldn’t be the case when supercruising, but have no clue about the surface temp of a canopy of an aircraft cruising/loitering normally.

And, the warmer cockpit environment is probably crappy for a sensor that may want to be cold as possible. Do modern IRSTs still like to chilled?

Agreed. I'm curious how they intend to creatively produce numbers to reflect this statement. It would appear to the layman that they may be referring to far more efficient maintenance, servicing, software, etc. as the F-35 enterprise has left a bad taste. I don't see how the reported (IIRC) $300M price tag can otherwise be spun, aside from integrating recovered alien technology that's super-duper cheap. :)

Just riffing here, but maybe an MQ-25-style fighter-sized refueling UAV? Perhaps their NGAS vision was simply too expensive, but the underlying mission remains.

Boeing was the safe bet since NG dropped out. Same as NG is the safe bet for FA-XX. Lockheed is a long shot since they have a huge backlog of F-35 orders to fill.

Yes I think the problem with the F-35 all over the time have playing a bad game for Lockheed

I mean wasn't there a boeing patent for Canards that can be hidden? Could be something like that but we also can't forget that we're talking about rendering probaly mostly artist renderings with specific requierments

Im starting to question how representative the renderings are of the actual design. I feel like these are just more notional/marketing concept renderings
 
I think the canards are just hidden behind the vapor cone in the rended of it flying. I this is more clear in the version of the render that flateric posted above.

If those cost estimates and timelines are remotely feasible, why was the program ever called into question in the first place? I am extremely skeptical of this statement. Were that even marginally accurate, then the program should have been a slam dunk and never paused.

Agreed. This has to be Boeing PR to move the stock, or something to that effect. "Actually, despite the 737 MAX, we're really ahead of the game..."

That's not really saying much though, the F-22 was ridiculously expensive, mostly due to small volume production. If it's not cheaper than the F-22 that would worry me a lot more.
