I feel like if we can have actual experts point out popular channels that are oft-cited but inaccurate then there's some value in the topic--but I don't think there's any point in commenting on all the AI glurge, any enthusiast can immediately tell they're trash.

I agree with @overscan that it may be impossible to point out every bad site, given the proliferation of "AI slop".

That said, just ignoring the bad stuff because enthusiasts and experts can tell they're trash won't really work either. Most of the people who view the AI Slop at length are not the experts and enthusiasts, and they will be easily mislead. Misinformation could drive out information, and that will have consequences. Concentrating on the "popular" bad sites as @tychosis suggests is probably the best we can do, but it won't solve all our problems.

At this point, I'd be 100% okay with not using youtube for any defense related news - save for raw footage of flight and launch videos.

As it pertains to commercial aerospace - Mentour pilot + select few smaller air accident creators have made themselves out to be credible enough with regards to crash related stuff, because they stick to what they know and don't voice their opinions on a bunch of shit that they think they can extrapolate based on their experience (looking at you C. W. Lemoine & friends).

As it pertains to defense? I haven't seen a single channel on youtube that doesn't have the main creator spitting out absolutely brain dead takes at one point or another (looking at you C. W. Lemoine & friends) no matter whether they were "in the field" or not - let alone AI slop. These days everyone has to have an opinion about every goddamn thing that they have to infuse reporting with their own opinions no matter how bad they are. At this point I'd rather just do a weekly "literature review" of what's going on, take some interesting headlines and crossreference them across articles, and then you're done.

Yeah, frankly these are the worst creators--the ones who know a little but give the impression to their followers that they're experts in all elements of the domain.

(I've mentioned before--as a former-submariner and now engineer--submariners are some of the absolute worst when it comes to this... as though the few months they spent studying qualifications somehow made them submarine experts.)

I'd posted this video in the "AI General News Thread" but it also belongs here. The creator of this channel did an analysis of a video that was featured (under slightly different names) on several AI 'History' channels covering the US Night Bombing of Japan and gets into the inaccuracies promogulated and the techniques used to create the impression of 'depth of research'.

If the 'about creator' page is accurate the creator is based in Brazil.
 
If the about page is correct the person using the 'Autocomplete for Life' to make the videos is based in Turkey.

Yup, exactly. Especially considering the fact that bad sources far outnumber good sources, in any field or topic but especially in the field of aerospace and defence...

The original intent of this thread seems rather pointless imho, unless Paul and others decides to apply a site-wide ban on citing/linking certain websites and YouTube channels and incorporate that to the forum rules. You'll have to make a very, very lengthy list if you want that.

Besides, I also think that most people here are capable of filtering out bad contents from good ones. I very often see bad videos or news media being linked in some of the threads on the forum being regularly called out.

So as Paul have said, a more productive effort would be to collect a recommendable source, be it through a thread or whatever that suits the need. We already have one such thread on The Bar

The more frightening ones seem believable

Of course humans can come back from Mars.

There are two kinds of problems... people who want to silence individuals like myself...as has been done with SLS fans being censored---and (worse) enemies of spaceflight hiding behind the faces of trusted, well known experts like Susskind. A similar A.I. bit with Feynman attacked the idea of humans returning from Mars.

That or physicists never heard of ISRU or MEM...
