B-58 Hustler Convair’s Cold War Mach 2 Bomber

This book is merely a photo book. It has 112 pages and 192 photos.
There is very little text in the book apart from the captions.
It is not much more than a coffee table book.
Maybe of interest to modellers, but not for you or me or most members here.

It is part of a whole series of similar books titled "Legends of Warfare".
There is also a similar series titled "Legends of Flight" with photo books on airliners.

Except for the book about the Boeing YC-14 probably none of these books contain substance in the form of text.
The low res previews on their website clearly demonstrate that.
There used to be high res previews on amazon in the past but nowadays these seem to be removed.

Schiffer used to publish great books on aviation, but in the past years they switched to this "Legends" format for their books on aircraft. Sad. Very sad.

I generally enjoy the naval "Legends," but the aviation ones, for whatever reason, tend to be rather weak when it comes to the level of detail in the photo captions and the actual photos themselves. The naval ones usually have a lot more rare or unique historic photographs, images of the ships being built and undergoing refits, some interesting views of life onboard, and sometimes a handful of color images of modern day museum ships. The ones on IJN warships usually have some rare diagrams, technical details, and information on hull design and machinery.

The aviation ones (including the B-58 ones) seem to be the complete opposite - lots of broad exterior views, some cockpit and interior photos, and usually about half the pages are occupied by color pictures of preserved museum planes. I switch between wearing my "aviation geek" and "naval geek" hats on a regular basis, and I just find the naval entries in the series a whole lot more satisfying. I did, however, enjoy the recent one on the PBY Catalina. YMMV, of course.

A colleague lent me the Huey volume of the Legends of Warfare series a couple of weeks ago. The picture selection was good, nicely reproduced and clear. Most of them seemed to by NARA or similar official photos and while it was a Vietnam-focused book, the photos trailed off around 1970 or so. The captions were informative but by the end of the book were pretty repetitive, having read "the UH-1F has the sideways-facing exhaust" ten times I had gotten the point!
An interesting read, but not something I would buy.

Schiffer started with the "Legends of Warfare" series in September 2017 and since then they produced about 70 volumes.
Most of them are listed here on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YDCDB2C

Including about 15 (my guesstimate) "Legends of Flight" volumes that totals about 85 "Legends" volumes in less than 8 years.
That's not even counting all the "Legends" volumes on ships, tanks, ..........

This could be seen as an attempt to crank out as many books as possible, with as little effort as possible.

Lets hope they soon stop with that and focus on aviation books with much more depth, of which they published only a few in the past 8 years.

I got a copy of this a while back because B-58. As some have mentioned, the Legends books are hit-or-miss. Some of them have much more detailed text, some of them are little more than photo chronicles. I was amused by this one though, I seem to recall some of the captions having interesting information. As a mostly photo book it is very well illustrated. If you have the Aerofax B-58 book you probably won't regret it if you pass on this one. Or if you're like me and thought "pointy thing is cool" you'll probably enjoy flipping through it.
