Well, if you think the B-52 was too slow to launch a Navaho....

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Although... A Navajo with a smaller solid fuel booster rocket could have gotten sonic much easier if it started from 500 mph and in a shallow dive than if ground launched...

A fully fueled Navajo probably could have gone supersonic from a B-36 if dropped sufficiently high and allowed to power-dive.

Well, the one drawing earlier did show the B-36 in orbit... :D

It would take years for a B-36 to reach Mach 25, that is: orbital velocity.

A storm into a bottle.

It is a typical early 50's representation of a flight into the stratosphere.
Usually artits tended to exaggerate the Earth's curvature so such drawing should depict the B-36 dropping the Navaho at, let's say, 13,000 meters.

The result is somewhat hilarious but the intention was that one....

Pfft! 50s amateurs. We’ve got a reusable rocket that might be able to reach Mars, and we called it … “Starship”

At least that one actually goes to space unlike:

That looks like a variant of the Navy SSM-N-6 Rigel, not Navajo

I particularly like the second picture where the B-36 is launching one from orbit...
The artwork and models are an earlier configuration looked at for the Navaho.

Enjoy the Day! Mark
Note too in the cutaway drawing, it appears there is a rocket nozzle in the aft end of the fuselage - so drop and give me Mach 1.....

Enjoy the Day! Mark
