Hi there, this is my first post and I would love it if anyone could post pics of the Armament test B-17/XB-40 and (X?)B-29(H?)

The XB-40 was of course a test bed for the YB-40 escort and the XB-29H (I think that's it) was test bed for all sorts of armament rigs, including a truely impressive escort version mounting 37 and 20mm cannon and possibly also Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs, though I strongly suspect that that was different airframes in the same program.

I have never seen pics of the wilder XB-40 fits, some with guns up to 40mm calibre and I have only ever seen two B-29 armament test pics, one with some wierd cheek-ball turrets and another, the escort load-out with cheek blisters and a five-gun dorsal turret.both were in a library book and some jerk cut the page out!

I'd be thankful for any help.

Try this for the YB-29, and this for the YB-40. This forum has a search function to help you find all the goodies. Enjoy.

yeah, WOW that is a lot of what I was looking for.

Amazing. Man don't you just wish that they had to document in pictures all of that stuff in detail for future generations?

The nose shot of the YB-29 with nose and cheek turrets looks a lot like the pic I remember from that old library book, except it was from a different angle and showed the dorsal turret with what looked with 4x .50 and a 20 or 37mm cannon.

If I want to keep hunting for more info, is it propper for me to post on those other two threads or on here? How do you guys feel about ressurecting old posts? some forums have a thing against it.
