Well, if the F35 doesn't work out, here is a much less expensive alternative:

Greek designer/builder George Iliopoulos has come up with a "fun replica" fighter in the spirit of the Loehle 5151 Mustang of the 1980s-1990s. His Archon SF1 does a pretty fair impersonation of a modern jet fighter when in fact it is a two-stroke powered, single-seat ultralight. It looks like a lot of fun to me! See also www.aerosports.gr

Cheers,

Matthew

Re: Aerosports Archon SF1

Cannot see too many differences and in those intakes a lot of weapons could be hidden in
a very stealthy way, shotguns, knifes, stones and the like ....
And participation in the building program could be extended to countries like Tuvalu or Liechtenstein ! ;D

Re: Aerosports Archon SF1

I am apparently one of the few people that actually liked the Boeing X-32 including the original delta-wing model. Maybe I ought to turn my aircraft homebuilding interests toward designing a "standoff, way off, scale" ultralight replica of the the Boeing JSF in the spirit of the Archon? The delta wing would be unique and by pushing the vertical tails a little further to the sides I could tuck the prop in between them. :p

Watch towards the middle and end of the video for some good flying footage. There seems to be some interest around this homebuilt.

Greek homebuilt F-35/22 style homebuilt!

This is great. ;D

Sold! To Mr Hammond of Whitehall. Now we'll have something to park on our carriers next month.

I second that Chris!

very nice look for an ultralight, even has small swept wings. Would like to see how an X-32 would look like in this design type. ;D

@ 6:43 to 6:54 he pulls into a vertical climb for a few seconds. ;D

Makes a change from the mini-Spitfires and Focke-Wulfs.

What was it that ancient prophet predicted? Something along the lines of..

"The Greek (or was it.. geek?..) will inherit the Earth".. or buy the farm/auger in.. ..or something..

S'pose he's givin' it a go, though.. Good on 'im..

Re: Greek Archon SF1 Ultra-Light ("F-22/35 look-alike")

Jemiba that is hilarious. This Greek built ultralight might even have a better chance of actually flying than a Q-313 might. Although if someone gets the inspiration to turn the Q-313 into a kit plane...

@7:41 and 9:12 really admire what he built. Would very much like to see if this was a kit, or at least as inspiration for a similar or improved design. Wonder how Rutan's style foam/fiberglass composites would work. It looks as though he used sheet metal.

I've merged those topics, as it makes looking for photos and videos of this ULA
easier, I think.

Adding "Archon SF1" in the title might also help!

Re: Greek Archon SF1 Ultra-Light ("F-22/35 look-alike")

.. we just have to take care, that the title isn't longer, than the posts ! ;)

Re: Greek Archon SF1 Ultra-Light ("F-22/35 look-alike")

Maybe the Hellenic Air Force can afford new aircraft after all. ;)

The single-seater Archon SF-1 was displayed at Oshkosh (late July 2022), along with an announcement that kits will be produced in Canada by Fisher Flying Products.
The Greek designer is working on a SF-2 two-seater variant.
