Glad someone finally made those dorsal inlets look not absolutely stupid. The other renders with the dorsal inlets have such high and square intakes the plane looks dumb, flies dumb and looks like it'll have the RCS of a sky scraper.

I actually based it on the X47B:
I extended the wings and made the front end more angular. Then I gave the nose a slight curve so that at high angles of attack, vortices wouldn't be generated that would affect the upper air intakes.
But I must say that it ended up looking very similar to the McDonnel Douglas design.
If Boeing wins the FA-XX contract, I think all these studies, along with the Bird of Prey and the X-36, will be the basis for the United States' next-generation fighters.
I started this FA-XX concept before the F47 was introduced. And I think both the F47 and the Boeing FA-XX will have an exhaust similar to the X36's. That is, an exhaust that at first glance looks like a single outlet, but it's split and features lateral thrust vectoring. That is, 2D vectoring, but not like the F22's, but rather directing the air laterally.
Pitch control will be adjusted with canards.
I was rereading things about the X36, and all the reports describe it as having amazing maneuverability.
Which makes a lot of sense: canards to help with pitch control, split ailerons, and lateral thrust vectoring for yaw.
I see the FA-XX more as an attack aircraft. Hence the upper air intakes.
And while this isn't the post to say it, I believe the F47 will have an air intake similar to the supposed YF-24 prototype. That is, a "single" ventral intake, but angled backward, not forward as in Boeing's ATF proposal. I believe what I'm saying can be seen in the famous Voddoo II patch. As if the guys at Boeing were saying, "We finally got this accepted," and that's why we're showing it in the patch.
