American early parasite aircraft concept of 1925

As I understand that article, it was an idea, triggered by experiments with gliders launched
in flight from bigger aircraft.

That's right my dear Jemiba,

but may be this concept related to a real aircraft design, who knows ?.

From AW 1925.

Would this be related to the various TransAtlantic 'Post' planes, where a flying boat carries a float-plane much of way ??

( I never did learn if piggy-back aircraft provided any thrust during flying boat's take-off...)

From Shorts Aircraft since 1900 by CH Barnes, Putnam 1989:
When coupled, the two components of the Mayo composite behaved in all respects as a single aeroplane, because the upper pilot could not move his controls, and his only responsibility before release was to contribute thrust and lift to 'the edifice' (as C[harles]. G. Grey called it).
From The Short Empire Boats by Geoffrey Norris, Profile Publications #84:
The aerofoil designs of the two aircraft were such that Mercury's wings were carrying the major part of the airload at the speed and height chosen for separation.
That feature insured Mercury pulled up on separation, with Maia going into a shallow dive.
