Combined Gas with Steam “COGAS” may provide a solution for the catapults. Waste heat from the gas turbines is recovered and used for the catapults and water distillation. No need for a new catapult design.

As I mentioned in my previous post COSAG is the ideal compromise, since:

a) the steam boilers can do double duty driving the ship at cruise speeds (where they will burn less fuel than gas turbines), and driving the catapults for launches (without having to fire up cold boilers every launch cycle)

b) it was tried and tested (unlike COGAS and other solutions requiring heat recuperation from the GT exhausts), and

c) The GTs of the time (early LM2500 and RR Olympus) were less powerful so you would need 3 or 4 to power the ship (requiring large exhausts at the expense of hangar and deck space) whereas with COSAG you could design the plant around only 2 GTs
