We have discussed Seaslug performance in some detail and speculated about what Seacat 2 might have been like, but original Seacat has not received attention.
Widely fitted on British warships during the 1960s and 1970s its only combat use was during the Falklands war in 1982 where 40mm guns...

I'm posting this in the post war section, but it is possible, given it's title that it may be a interwar project. I came across this proposal from Short Bros for an eight-engined long range flying boat. I have checked throughout the site but without any luck. Wonder if anyone can fill in the...
I am currently writing a book on the Short Skyvan. I wonder if anyone has information (description, drawings etc) on Shorts project P.D.50 described as a "Skyvan VTOL test-bed", and P.D.62 listed in the Putnam as "Skyvan with B.L.C" but elsewhere as "Skyvan Feeder Liner". Both seem quite...

The arrival of a new book on the F8 Crusader got me thinking of the old chestnut of giving the RN a fighter
for Ark, Eagle, Victorious and Hermes
I have always felt that if we had done what France did and purchased the F8 we could have kept a carrier force
as long as the French did. We could...

According to the wiki article (I know, I know), the Goshawk was part of the contract, is this true as the competing Saro and Supermarine designs had Pegasus engines?
If The Knuckleduster managed to...

Artist's impression of Shorts Jet Belfast. The proposed Jet Belfast would carry two decks of palletised cargo across the Atlantic at 500 mph. A swing nose would facilitate loading and the aircraft would be powered by four Rolls Royce Conway turbofans.

Thales Air Defence - the company that was formerly Shorts - is about to announce a new missile programme. Known as the Lightweight Multi-Role Missile, it is apparently intended to take the company beyond its traditional field of light SAM systems. Details will be officially released on 2 June.

In an old edition (about 1962-3) of the excellent annual Flight International missiles guide published in those days with drawings and photos I found a missile called Seacat 2, which looked similar to Roland, Rapier etc and was supposed to be a simple mount on the existing Seacat/Tigercat...
In the RAF Flying Review 3/62 I've found a model photo of a Shorts
VTOL project, principally similar to the german VJ-101, with to
swivelling nacelles and two vertically installed RB.162 engines.
Anybody, who knows the designation or furhter details ?
First up: L-227-14, one of the designs leading to the F-104. Clearly not the direction Lockheed decided to take. (Note: on the original, the dimensions are illegible).
Second: CL-351-10 AKA F-104X, an F-104 with big inlets, a J-79 and the ability to get to Mach 3.2 at 69,000 feet.
