Hi everyone! Aviation historian Konstantin G. Udalov and co-author Igor A. Ilin have just released a new astonishing book about early russian glider planes in the decade betwenn 1907 and 1917. (The series was founded in 1994.)

The huge amount of aviation thoughts, projects and concepts throughout the (higher) russian society in Zarist times is astonishing. It seems that most of the leading intellectuals and military had something to say about "flying" and "aviation". But the idea off light was spread around the world. Many people wanted at the brink oft he 20th century wanted to build their own flying apparatus. The first and best way was tot o construct gliders. Many people in Zarist Russia did so. Some of them later became (famous) aircraft or rocket designers. The book combines deep historical researches about the gliders in that decade, technical and bigrafical informations about the designers and builders. It includes much contemporary material and fotos and much more.

I’ve got the pleasure of getting a copy of the most recent book Mr. Konstatin Udalov and Mr. Igor A. IIin, called “Russian Sailplanes 1907-1917”.

Hi all!

I want to correct a few inaccuracies:

Not so Keburija, Vissarion S.---- should be Keburia, Besarion S. . Кебурия, Виссарион . ქებურია, ბესარიონ . Georgian. One of the pioneers of aviation and so on. Georgian civil aviation and aircraft designer.

Not so Shukov, Aleksej V ---- should be Alexey Shiukov (or Shiukashvili in Georgian). Шиуков (Шиукашвили), Алексей. შიუკაშვილი, ალექსანდრე. Georgian. Born in 1893 in Tiflis (now Tbilisi, capital of Georgia (Republic of Georgia). One of the pioneers of aviation and so on. The first in Russia to begin his flights on gliders of his own design, he became one of the classic pilots of the World War and the founder of Russian and Soviet aviation.

Most sources point to Keburia "Vissarion" Savelyevich in the French pilot's diploma, too, "Vissarion". On one Georgian website, the name "Vissarion" is indicated in the title, followed by "Besarion" and the initials of the Georgian letter "B" are indicated on the monument to him. At the moment, there are no valid documents for one or another correct name. According to this, two options are indicated: Vissarian and Besarion.

What percentage of the material is based on newly uncovered archival sources versus previously published research? I'm wondering how much of this book presents information that hasn't been widely available before.
