I’m researching the experimental magnesium-alloy aircraft E-2 “Klim Voroshilov” designed in 1934 by M. L. Babad (my grandfather) and A. L. Gimmelfarb. Could someone tell me if this book has additional information on the plane, any diagrams, etc? Many thanks.

No. The first volume is dedicated to designers before 1907.
At the moment, there was no photo or diagram anywhere.

My translation via Google Translate:
E-2 “Klim Voroshilov” is an all-'electron' [magnesium alloy] two-seat aircraft with a Blackburn-Tomtit engine of 18 HP, later replaced by an Anzani engine of 27 HP, a cantilever mid-wing with a wing of constant chord and profile, semicircular in plan at the ends.

Designer M. L. Babad, Gimmelfarb and Petrov-Gubish participated.

Even the screw [propeller?] was made from 'electron', riveted from two 10 mm sheets.

The thin skin sheets lay quite smoothly on the single-spar wing, and the skin of the monocoque fuselage was quite clean.

However, all-metal construction was still expensive and the weight of the aircraft exceeded the design weight. Pilot A.I. Zhukov performed one flight on this aircraft in 1934, which showed that the engine power was insufficient.

It was not allowed to fly again due to suspected corrosion.

http://авиару.рф/aviamuseum/aviatsiya/sssr/eksperimentalnye-samolety/eksperimentalnyj-samolet-emai-1/ shows the E-1, also made from 'electron',

https://lib.ulstu.ru/venec/2014/160.pdf has mostly the same story as Shavrov with an additional detail.
The E-1 was not the only domestic electron aircraft. At GAZ No. 1, at the same time as the aircraft, a glider was built from the same magnesium alloy. On its first flight, its tail broke off during landing. The remains of the airframe, which had no protective coating, abandoned in the yard, were destroyed by corrosion in less than a year.
MAI graduate M.L. Babad, with the participation of Gimmelfarb, built Airplane E-2 "Klim Voroshilov". Unlike the E-1, which had a fabric-covered wing and tail, the E-2 was entirely made of electron, even the propeller was riveted from two 10-mm sheets of magnesium alloy. According to the design, the aircraft was a cantilever monoplane with a mid-mounted rectangular wing with rounded tips. Blackburn-Tomtit engine 18 hp. soon replaced by "Anzani" with 27 hp. But the all-metal plane turned out to be too heavy for this engine.
A.I. Zhukov performed only one flight on it in 1934, which showed that the engine power was insufficient. The E-2 was not allowed to fly again due to suspicions of structural corrosion. Despite this, during the November holidays of 1935, this aircraft was demonstrated on Mayakovsky Square in Moscow as an achievement of Soviet aircraft manufacturing.
There was also a flying boat E-3 made also from 'Electron' magnesium alloy, which given how easily corroded it was is a brave decision. Construction was never completed.

Aircraft MAI (1994) by Makarov Yu. V. has some details (needs OCR, maybe a Russian speaker can note anything interesting).

If anyone could point in a direction, I'm still so curious to know where this third image of Babad came from - the halftone Igor was kind enough to pass along. Thank you!!
