President Trump on his views on a possible Vietnam-Style war, saying he's not afraid of that possibility.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is 'not afraid' to deploy US ground troops within Iran , further emphasizing the lengths he is willing to go in his Middle East war. Speaking from the Oval Office alongside Ireland's Taoiseach, Micheal Martin, the President fielded many questions about the Iran war. 'Are you afraid that if you put boots on the ground in Iran, it could be another Vietnam?' one reporter asked. 'No,' Trump shot back, adding, 'I'm not afraid of anything.'

Emmanuel Macron has urged Iran, Israel and the US to halt strikes on critical infrastructure following a wave of attacks on major energy sites across the Gulf.

The French president condemned the “reckless escalation”, warning that the destruction of Middle Eastern energy production capacity would have “a much more lasting impact” on the conflict.

Israel struck Iran’s South Pars gas field – the world’s largest – on Wednesday.

In response, Iran hit Ras Laffan – the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas plant in Qatar – along with a series of other targets across the region.

Energy markets reacted sharply, with gas prices jumping 35 per cent and Brent crude rising nearly 11 per cent to $119 a barrel.

Mr Macron called for direct talks between the US and Iran, saying the issue required urgent diplomatic engagement.

He held discussions with Donald Trump, the US president, and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, before posting on X: “It is in our common interest to implement, without delay, a moratorium on strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, particularly energy and water supply facilities.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the war in Iran is different from previous U.S. operations in the Middle East and that Tehran couldn’t be trusted to abandon its nuclear program on its own terms, adding, “We will finish this.”

“Our objectives given directly from our America-first president remain exactly what they were on day one,” he said in a joint briefing with Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Hegseth added that no time has been set on ending the conflict.

The comments came as Iranian attacks on Middle Eastern energy infrastructure have sent oil prices sharply higher. Qatar said missiles caused extensive damage at a major hub for liquefied natural gas, while Saudi and Kuwaiti refineries were also hit.

Those strikes came in response to an Israeli attack on the South Pars field. President Trump said Israel won’t launch further attacks against that Iranian asset but threatened that the U.S. will “blow up the entirety” of it if Qatari gas is attacked again.

Drones over base where Rubio, Hegseth live raise security concerns (The Washington Post, via MSN)

U.S. officials detected unidentified drones above the Washington Army base where Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth live, according to three people briefed on the situation. Officials have not determined where they came from, two of the people said.

The military is monitoring potential threats more closely because of the heightened alert level as the United States and Israel strike Iran, according to a senior administration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security matters. Multiple drones were spotted over Fort Lesley J. McNair on a single night in the last 10 days, the official said, prompting increased security measures and a meeting at the White House to discuss how to respond.

The drone sightings in Washington come as the U.S. issued a global security alert for overseas diplomatic posts and locked down several domestic bases because of threats. This week, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida raised their force protection level to Charlie — a designation that means the commander has intelligence indicating an attack or danger is possible. The only higher alert level, Delta, is for when an attack has occurred or is anticipated.

The drones over Fort McNair prompted officials to weigh relocating Rubio and Hegseth, two of the people briefed said. The senior administration official said the secretaries haven’t moved. Their quarters on the base were publicly reported by multiple outlets in October.

At a Thursday press briefing, Air Force Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, discussed operational updates as the conflict stretches into its third week, revealing that A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft are "now in the fight."

-Air Force A-10 Thundebolt II attack aircraft, commonly called Warthogs, are now chasing Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz.

-US forces are attempting to reopen the strait as Iran disrupts crude oil shipping through the critical waterway.

-The Air Force has been pushing the retirement of the Warthog, deeming the aircraft obsolete for a war with China.

The FTSE 100 plunged after Iran launched missile strikes on energy plants, threatening to derail global growth.

The UK’s flagship index was down 2.6pc after attacks on sites in Qatar and Saudi Arabia sent gas prices soaring by 35pc on Thursday.

Qatar had said that the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant suffered “extensive damage” in a series of attacks last night.

The boss of Qatar Energy warned that the damage from the Iranian strikes would take three to five years to repair.

Stocks have plummeted around the world as the conflict has also driven up oil prices, pushing Brent crude up nearly 11pc on Thursday to more than $119 a barrel.

The mid-cap FTSE 250, which is more focused on the UK economy, has dropped by as much as 2.2pc to its lowest level since November last year.

Traders have begun betting that central banks will keep interest rates higher this year to combat a potential inflationary shock, weighing down on growth.

Money markets now indicate that the Bank of England will raise borrowing costs three times this year to 4.5pc, having indicated a cut was on the way in March before the war broke out.

Announcing interest rates had been kept on hold at 3.75pc, Governor Andrew Bailey said he was “ready to act as necessary” to bring inflation down to the Bank’s 2pc target.

Pantheon Macroeconomics warned that the latest increases in oil and gas could push inflation back up from 3pc now to 4pc by November.

Mathieu Racheter, an analyst at Julius Baer, said: “The renewed escalation in the Middle East is reviving stagflation concerns just as investors were getting more comfortable on inflation up until March.”

Yanbu and Fujairah are the only 2 major export outlets left since Iran shut the Strait of Hormuz. Fujairah has already suspended operations after repeated attacks. Now Yanbu is getting hit too.

Furthermore, tankers are transiting the strait of Hormuz in accordance to Iranian guidance through the strait. Possibly to avoid hazards like mines.

On the note of ships in the strait, it is theorized based on these satellite images that Iranian boats carried out an attack against an unresponsive vessel

We’ve just heard from Pete Hegseth. He reiterated the claim from Donald Trump that the US president knew nothing about the attack on Iran’s South Pars gasfield.

However, Reuters is reporting that Israel says its attack on the gas facilities was coordinated with the United States.

CNN reporting the same

Also CNN, F-35 made an emergency landing after allegedly being hit during a combat mission over Iran.
A US F-35 fighter jet made an emergency landing at US air base in the Middle East after it was struck by what is believed to be Iranian fire, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command, said the fifth-generation stealth jet was “flying a combat mission over Iran” when it was forced to make an emergency landing. Hawkins said the aircraft landed safely and the incident is under investigation.

Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command, said the fifth-generation stealth jet was “flying a combat mission over Iran” when it was forced to make an emergency landing. Hawkins said the aircraft landed safely and the incident is under investigation.

“The aircraft landed safely, and the pilot is in stable condition,” Hawkins added. “This incident is under investigation.”

Presumed video footage of F-35 being hit released by IRGC (take with a tiny grain of salt for now)

More pointedly : F-35 get a technical problem. Iran claims to have damaged it, because, well, propaganda.
Well, the video looks detailed enough, and quite persuasive. I suspect a close SAM burst with some fragment damage on F-35 engine (looks like fuel is leaking):
