Small UAS / Drones and related general thread - NOT Swarming ones.

Dodging drones and missiles involves manufacturing as well , i imagine most have moved or are moving sites

Hackers from the KillNet group have created an interactive map of Ukraine called "MATRIX" showing the locations of factories producing drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The map is updated in real time and contains information about 850 FPV production sites, 720 large drone factories, 45 marine drone manufacturing enterprises, 380 kamikaze drone creation points, and 136 locations where reconnaissance drones are assembled.- UARU

Why are you showing these images? This is a hit list and I don't see the point of it being posted except for nefarious reasons.

Its a ''hit list published'' on Russian MSM ,Telegram and X , and interested parties sure have live acces ,so hardly of any nefairus purpose posting it here besides you are not seeing any specific data. It just highlights dangers persist off the front lines.

Given you can launch these from any pickup truck , why bother adding Switchblades to a M1 tank .

General Dynamics Land Systems announced a successful demonstrations of the Precision Effects & Reconnaissance, Canister-Housed (PERCH) system."PERCH allows units to deploy Switchblade loitering munitions far forward on the battlefield while remaining covered and concealed themselves"- Jim Pasquarette, vice president, U.S. strategy and business development, General Dynamics Land Systems."Integrating Switchblade 300 and 600 into General Dynamics Land Systems platforms through the PERCH modular kit delivers immediate operational advantages – extending reach and enabling rapid, precise effects from protected positions"- Brian Young, senior vice president, loitering munitions systems at AV

Tanks are not dead ,they are the most survivable asset on the battlefield , giving them stand of weaponry kinda negates the need for armor. While today FPV are extremely dangerous , tanks take many hits ,while other armor is dead after one hit. Besides sooner than later defense systems against drones will greatly reduce their effectiveness.

While potentially a threat to Ukrainian aircraft it needs to be kept in mind that while Russia has large inherited stockpiles of the AA-8 Aphid they're a 1970s Soviet-era design with an uncooled seeker design, good for its time but crude and obsolescent in today's environment.

Geran strike carried out on a ship in the port of Odessa
First [somewhat] decent look at a Geran fitted with an optronic seeker, tho its of a different design to the S-236

Those guys should be sued for not retrieving their fiber thread when anywhere but on a proving ground or a battlefield. It´s also a life threatening overflight that demands rigorous safety protocols.

This tech is now a decade old. There are no innovations in what they are doing here. Hence a bit of decency in executing their project would be commendable.

21 year old Vadim is a Ukrainian veteran of three years. Started out as an infantryman, mortars at the start of Russia's full scale invasion attempt in 2022, but went on to employ drones for fire control on his own accord and developed his proficiency from there on. Whereas the evolution of UAVs may seem fast from the outside, it's more organic innovation out of necessity and even tedium on the front lines. Now Vadim alternates as (I gather) a frontline recon UAV pilot and developing technology and tactics. It's a wide ranging, unvarnished exchange and not very technical at all; still, an interesting and personal glimpse into a very consequential part of Europe today. L'entrevue commence en français, mais n'inquiète pas, elle continue en anglais après qqs minutes.

Useful perspective on what drones cannot do:
Kinda weird since a lot of these can be resolved by slightly more tech/budget, and others are of questionable importance. I mean, low to earth perspective is just a matter of repeater/fiber, and more sensor modalities is possible if one spend money on it.

While one big issue, NETS (and similar obstructions) is overlooked completely.

Hearing the issues though, it seems like INS/terrain nav. based recon flights would be useful even if real time comms are not available. Just the video recording should tell you what the opponent is attempting when surging EW and with fast enough vehicles the intel can still be useful.

Low bandwidth ai-compressed mesh networks against EW will probably take a force with more budget and development time though.

US bans new foreign drone models in a blow to Chinese giant DJI:

“We do so through an action today that does not disrupt the ongoing use or purchase of previously authorized drones and with appropriate avenues for excluding drones that do not pose a risk,” he added.

The import, sale or use of existing device models the telecom regulator previously authorized will continue to be allowed and consumers can continue to use any drones previously purchased legally, the FCC said.
