Ok but like.... why? one major design philosophy of ATF having supercruise is the ability to disengage by putting distance between you and the enmy and reposition for best stealth characteristics and reengage on its own terms. And the most favorable term is not to enter a dogfight where outcome is much more volatile no matter how much better your aircraft can maneuver. I dont see the need to increase weight and complexity with 4 AIM-9X

Well, in a head on engagement at high super cruise speed the max range of AIM-9X is above 20 NM and can be considered a silent beyond visual range weapon.

Agreed.

I mean, the F-22 with 6x AIMRAAMs is still basically equal in armament to an F-15. Only swapping 2x AIM9 for 2x AMRAAMs, and IIRC this is within the limits of the early Eagle's setup. Advanced Eagles with the extra wing pylons can obviously carry more missiles.

Is it just me or the forward fuselage is too boxy? The chine flaring outward isn't visible anymore - although it could just entirely be due to DCS's crappy lighting.

The aircraft in the DCS video is the F-23A, the projected serial version, with some changes from the YF-23 demonstrator, including longer and reshaped forward fuselage, dual tandem IWB, and slimmer engine fairings.
